Warming Spiced Turmeric Latte

26. Feb. 2020 von

This comforting golden drink will satisfy sweet cravings and has immune-boosting properties, making it the perfect choice for cooler months.

Use fresh ingredients to reap the most benefits and get the richest flavors. Almond butter makes this aromatic drink extra creamy and honey adds a touch of sweetness. Don’t be tempted to skip the black pepper as it contains piperine – a molecule which aids in the absorption of turmeric. Otherwise, feel free to experiment by adding your favorite spices or leaving out ones you don’t have. Vanilla, nutmeg, and Chinese five-spice would all make great variations.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon fresh turmeric, grated or 1-2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated or ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 heaped tablespoon of almond butter
  • 1 heaped tablespoons of honey
  • 2 cups non-sweetened almond milk
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 pinch of black pepper
  • 1 pinch of salt

Method

Measure out the fresh turmeric, ginger, and spices into a small saucepan. Add the almond butter and honey to the spices, mix to form a paste. Turn the heat on to low. Then, add the milk little by little, whisking gently to evenly combine. Heat the mixture until small bubbles start to form but it is not yet boiling. Turn off the heat and let steep for 3 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a mug and serve with a pinch of cinnamon and extra honey to taste. (If you’re not using fresh ingredients, skip the last 2 steps and throw the hot milk and spices straight into the blender. Blend briefly until frothy and serve.)
