Chlorophyll- The Green Wonder? 4 Convincing Effects

25. Dez. 2019 von

Spinach, kale, and broccoli are healthy - and green! This is no coincidence, both are due to the plant substance chlorophyll. This has numerous positive health effects from detox to cancer prevention and is the favourite of Hollywood stars. We'll show you why.

Chlorophyll conquers Hollywood

Healthy beauty drinks with chlorophyll are no longer a secret tip in Hollywood. Now the green wave is spreading rapidly.

Among the prominent fans of chlorophyll are Jennifer Lawrence, Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow. We'll explain what's behind the trend and how you can benefit from chlorophyll.

What is chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is a green dye. It is formed by plants that perform photosynthesis and it gives them their typical colour.

The chlorophyll in the plant converts carbon dioxide, water, and light energy into oxygen and glucose. This creates healthy breathing air, which is why our forests are considered the "green lungs" of the earth.

Chlorophyll is responsible for distribution in the cells and closely resembles the functions of haemoglobin in the blood.

Which foods contain chlorophyll?

The chlorophyll content of fruit and vegetables is indicated by their colour. The rule here is: the darker the green, the more chlorophyll it contains.

Foods rich in chlorophyll are:

  • Spinach
  • Wheatgrass
  • Curly Kale
  • Broccoli
  • Cucumber
  • Algae
  • Peas
  • Herbs such as Parsley, Coriander, or Nettle

Four incredible effects of chlorophyll

1. Natural anti-aging

Two Korean studies have found that drinking chlorophyll acts as a natural anti-aging component. The chlorophyll extract reduces wrinkles and increases the elasticity of the skin at the same time. It also stimulates collagen production!

All of this is due to the molecular structure of chlorophyll and its similarity to haemoglobin. The green extract is rich in magnesium and antioxidants as well, which aids in combating signs of premature skin aging.

This combination purifies the blood, stimulates the growth of blood cells and supports the anti-aging process!

2. A slimming agent

In a Swedish study, chlorophyll has proven to be a slimming product. Over three months, overweight women took daily supplements of chlorophyll. The outcome: Their uncontrolled cravings, along with their desire for sweet and fatty foods were dampened. This resulted in significant weight loss and lower cholesterol levels in the blood of the test subjects.

In addition, a study carried out in 2017 showed that chlorophyll extracts from mint, broccoli, thyme, and paprika had a regulating effect on blood sugar.

3. Detox

The modern world constantly pollutes our organism with toxins from water, air, and food. Chlorophyll supports the body's important detoxification processes.

The results of a scientific investigation in Japan proved the detoxification effects of the plant substance. It demonstrated that Chlorophyll derived from Chlorella inhibited the absorption of dioxins from the digestive tracts of rats. Dioxins are highly toxic compounds that are mainly found in animal products. Furthermore, the chlorophyll aided in accelerating the elimination of toxins.

A Nigerian study also showed that chlorophyll binds lead to itself and thus supports the elimination of heavy metals.

4. Cancer prevention

Chlorophyll is rich in antioxidants that bind to free radicals before they can damage body cells or even cause cancer. The green miracle has even been shown to be effective in the fight against cancer cells!

Among other things, chlorophyllin, a chlorophyll derivative, has been shown to work against the strong carcinogen aflatoxin (AFB1). In the randomized study from China, some of the 180 volunteers with a high risk of hepatitis B and liver cancer took chlorophyllin for 16 weeks. Placebos were administered to the control group. The result: The strong carcinogen aflatoxin (AFB1) was reduced by up to 55 percent in those who took chlorophyllin.

What should I consider when buying chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is available in the form of capsules, powder, tablets, or as a liquid extract. It is a matter of your personal preference when choosing the supplement form that is right for you. It is important to pay attention to environmental friendliness. The product should be cultivated organically, and when grown, natural resources should be preserved. Products containing algae or wheatgrass are also rich in chlorophyll - the greener the better!

These labels on the packaging stand for high quality:

  • 100 percent natural
  • Free of heavy metals
  • Free of binders, fillers, and additives as well as pesticides
  • Organic certificate

The right dosage

The dosage of the green plant pigment depends on the dosage form. For example, different rules apply to capsules than to liquid extracts. Therefore, the instructions of each manufacturer should be observed.

In general, a slow increase of the dosage is recommended due to the detoxifying effect. The skin and digestion make the detoxification process noticeable and show us whether detoxification is taking place. In case of doubt or serious illnesses, chlorophyll should be taken under the supervision of a doctor or an alternative practitioner.

DIY chlorophyll

Many manufacturers offer chlorophyll in filtered water. A homemade chlorophyll drink is simpler and more eco-friendly because it weighs less during transport.

How to? Simply puree wheatgrass juice, spinach, apples, and cucumber into a delicious smoothie.
