Starch aluminium octenyl succinate is starch esterified with octenyl succinic anhydride and treated with aluminum sulphate.

Herstellung

Starch aluminium octenyl succinate is used as a release agent in encapsulated vitamin preparations in food supplements. The substance is water repellent and prevents agglomeration when drying at low temperatures.

Problem

It is to some extent stored in the body. A possible link to Alzheimer's disease or breast cancer is currently the subject of debate. Of concern for patients with a kidney condition.
